May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month

Braman Termite and Pest Elimination, a leading provider of pest management services in southern New England since 1890, encourages western Massachusetts residents to protect their families from tick bites that can transmit Lyme disease. Each year approximately 300,000 people are diagnosed with Lyme disease, with a concentration of cases in the northeast and upper midwest.

Do not be tricked into thinking that ticks are only found in the deep woods. Unfortunately, these pesky creatures can be found right in a suburban backyard and can carry the most common vector-borne disease reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The good news is that Braman Termite and Pest Elimination now offers a program and treatments to help reduce the chances of your family and pets becoming victims of these menacing pests.

Application of insecticide from April through November along the transition from lawn to wooded areas will greatly reduce tick populations. Additionally, for those who wish to control Lyme disease carrying deer ticks but do not want to apply insecticides to their property, Braman Termite and Pest Elimination also offers a method developed by the CDC, which consists of a plastic station that contains a food attractant and an insecticide wick. Used consistently for at least two years, this system has proven to be effective.

“Today many families are impacted by Lyme disease, while this disease can be devastating there are ways that you can protect your family and loved ones,” said Jerry Lazarus, third-generation owner of Braman Termite and Pest Elimination. “At the end of April is when ticks will begin to emerge, that is why we are encouraging customers and raising awareness during Lyme Disease Awareness Month. We are urging residents take the necessary steps to protect their homes.”
